Finance Council

- The parish finance council (as required by Canon Law for each parish) is a consultative body of the Christian faithful (parishioners) established to advise the pastor in matters pertaining to the financial affairs of the parish. The Council provides oversight in the area of Stewardship which involves time, treasure and talent. The Council aids the pastor in the administration of the parish resources. The parish resources, which support parish life, represent the contributions of parishioners and other sources in the community.
  
  The tasks of the Finance Council include:
  
  - Preparation and monthly monitoring of the Parish Budget
  - Review of expenses and proposed major facilities improvement projects
  - Recommendations for solicitation of additional donations (revenue) and support for online giving via Faith Direct
  - Support for Pastoral Council’s Goals and Objectives
  
  The Parish Finance Council is responsible for assisting the pastor and parish administration in being accountable and responsible to the people of the parish. The Finance Council prepares the budget for the parish by working closely with the Ministry Heads and Department Directors and then, with the Office Manager, monitors adherence to the budget, monthly. The Finance Council, in conjunction with the Director of Facilities, identifies the needs of the physical plant and makes recommendations for its upkeep, maintenance and development.

  After 46 years working at Dollar Bank, I retired in 2018. I began my career there in
  1972 as a teller, worked full time while earning my BS in Electrical Engineering
  and my MS in Industrial Engineering. I advanced through the ranks to Senior Vice
  President of Information Technology, where I was responsible for a $25 million
  operating budget and 150 employees. I have been married to my wife Janice for
  51 years. We have three children—a daughter in Las Vegas, a son in
  Mechanicsburg, PA and a son here in Pittsburgh. I am a life-long Catholic and have
  been active in all three of the parishes I’ve belonged to over the years. My wife
  and I taught religious education classes for over 50 years and we especially
  enjoyed our time on the Marriage Prep Team and Confirmation preparation for
  8 th grade students at St. Sebastian Parish, now Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Currently I
  am an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, a Lector, a member of Finance
  Council and a participant in our St. Vincent dePaul Society. I enjoy woodworking
  and am happy when I successfully complete a project. Everyone knows I carry a
  full array of tools in my car because one never knows when a project will present
  itself. As a former Boy Scout, my motto is “Be prepared!”

  My wife Luann and I have called Sewickley and Divine Redeemer home since 2017. Before that, we raised our four children in Robinson Township as members of St. Malachy in Kennedy Township.
  
  Finance is a big part of what I do. Professionally, I am a CPA and Partner of Sisterson & Co. LLP. While at St. Malachy, I served on the finance council for over a decade. I am currently serving on the finance committee at OLSH and also serve as the chair of its Board of Directors. As of 2024, I have been blessed to be married for 38 years. After I got married, I went through the RCIA program to become Catholic. It has been a true blessing to be part of the Catholic Church and I do not take it for granted. As I near retirement, I look forward to other ways that I might serve the church and the community. Luann and I love to walk in the town and are grateful for all that it offers. We are regulars at the 8AM Mass, where she often lectors. Divine Redeemer feels like home and we love being a part of it.

  As Evelyn and I have had the opportunity to belong to four different parishes within the Diocese of Pittsburgh in our various moves, none can compare to our faith filled experience at Divine Redeemer. Members since the week we moved to the Sewickley area in 2016, we have joyfully worshiped, volunteered, and supported the efforts and missions of our Parish.
  
  In our life and faith journey, we have no greater accomplishment than seeing our two daughters, two sons-in-law, and four grandchildren embrace and thrive in their Catholic faith. All are active in their respective parishes and all four grandchildren have or are attending Catholic schools.
  
  My past activities in the parish related to finances have been collection counting, and currently managing the financial aspects of the Fish Fry. I have also enjoyed participating as a greeter, a member of the Knights of Colombus, and working on the many events held by our parish community.
  
  I joined the Finance Council in August of 2024. My academic and 40+ years of business management experience provide a solid base for the stewardship associated with the mission of the council. The challenges and opportunities abound, and I consider it an honor to serve on this important element of our Parish.

  My family moved to Ohio township in November of 1995 and have been members of Divine Redeemer-St Mary’s ever since. I have been married to my husband Jeff for 36 years. We have three sons, Stephen, Joshua and Matthew and one grandson, Blake.
  Throughout my years at the parish, I have been active through my participation in Eucharistic ministry, religious education teacher, parish picnic planner, faith formation hospitality, fish fry worker and finance council.
  
  My education background is a bachelor’s degree in accounting from PSU. In my career, I have worked for several companies, doing accounting, budgets, financial statements, payroll, computer oversight, and overall business planning.
  I am honored to be on the finance committee and serving the church with my talents. It is a pleasure to help the committee and Father manage the finances of the parish. I look forward to helping the committee both in spiritually and financially responsible ways to help benefit the parish’s growth.

  After a career in Food and Pharmaceutical Packaging, with Campbell Soup, Abbott Laboratories, Wyeth-Ayerst, and Bausch and Lomb I retired 11 years ago. In 2007 my wife Suzy and I moved back to Pittsburgh. I’m originally from the South Hills and grew up in St. Luke’s (Carnegie) and St. Phillips (Crafton) Parishes. I’ve been named to the Packaging Hall of Fame located at Michigan State University, a worldwide recognition of the things I did in Packaging. I’ve also authored a book, The Pharmaceutical Packaging Handbook, that was published in 2009. During my career I managed laboratories worldwide and was responsible for large scale capital projects at all the companies named above.
  
  My wife Suzy and I have been married for 53 years. When we returned to the North Hills, Suzy and I initially were members of St. Killian Church in Mars, and after we purchased a home in Sewickley, we became members of St. Mary’s. I’m a cradle Catholic and my wife is a convert to the church. We are regulars at the 5 PM Saturday Mass at St. Mary’s.
  I was a member of the Parish Council at St. Louis Church in Pittsford, New York (a suburb of Rochester NY} and was in their facilities committee. I’ve always enjoyed helping and serving in all the parishes where we’ve belonged over the years. The Finance Council at Divine Redeemer is a wonderful opportunity to continue serving. Divine Redeemer is a great parish, and it is an honor to contribute to its success.

  Sandy was the past Annuity Specialist for Mass Mutual Pittsburgh, serving in that position for 14 years. She also had a small financial practice that focused on Retirement Planning for Educators and their Spouses with an emphasis on 403b plans and pensions. She is now semi-retired, serving as a relationship consultant when needed to HKS Financial Partners. She has been in the insurance/financial industry for over 40 years.
  
  Sandy has served on the Finance Committee for 3.5years and has been a member of the St. Mary’s Community for 35 years where she still serves as a lector. She has lived in Sewickley for 50 years and is single, but proudly proclaims “Aunt” status to several “non-biological” nieces and even has the status of a “pretend” grandmother” to another young woman.

  I have been a member of Divine Redeemer since 2011 and have served on the finance council since 2017. My wife, Johnna and I have been married since 2005 and have two beautiful daughters, Hailey and Emma, who have attended St. James since Kindergarten. In addition to finance council, I also serve as a lector, Eucharistic Minister and help at fish fry. If you see me volunteering at the parish, you’ll probably see my wife and daughters helping as well.
  After graduating with a degree in accounting from Gannon University, I moved to the Pittsburgh area to begin my career in auditing with a major accounting firm. Since then, I have worked in various accounting roles for local corporations and am currently doing financial reporting for Highmark Health.
